4 Big Mistakes You Could Be Making With Your Blog

Running a blog is hard work.

So it’s no wonder that a lot of people who start blogs quit within the first three month (source).

After blogging for eighteen months, I can see why this is true. There is a lot more to blogging than simply, well, blogging. This is something I learnt on my own, through my own journey. I've learnt that there are some quite simple things we can do to help our blogs be more professional. Most of us aren't even aware of them.

I came across articles which included almost 20 mistakes you could be making with your blog. But I didn't want to give you an endless list. I wanted to pick out the key things that you could be missing out on. The things you can start working on today. My hope is that by identifying these mistakes, you can then work on them and improve them.

This will be key to your success in the long-run.

Career 101: 5 Ways To Turn Your Internship Into A Job

In today’s world, employers are only looking for one thing – experience.

But where do you start? How do you get someone to take you on when you don’t have that much experience?

That’s where internships come in.

Some people hear the word “intern” and think about coffee runs and tedious tasks. Yes, sometimes you might be asked to make a round of tea. But there stereotypes are exaggerated.

Internships are brilliant ways to improve the “Experience” part of your CV. They can build your professional and personal skills at the same time.

The subject of internships is vast. It could be a four week unpaid one at a magazine publication, like I did. Or a six month internship with a company, where you’re paid travel expenses. But usually, the pay will be low. So if you’re doing an internship it’s important to get the most out of it as possible. Best case scernario? You get a job out of it.

Research shows employers convert a third of their interns into full time employees.

The value of internships is only going to continue to increase. The fact that you might be able to get a job out of it would be even better. But how do you do that?

Today I’m going to share some tips for how you can change your internship into a job.

Why Doubting Yourself Is A Good Thing

My mum has always told me that there’s no such word as “can’t”. I'll be playing the piano. There'll be a certain point on a piece of music that I just can't get past. I’ll say, “I can’t do this.” And she’ll say, “There’s no such word as can’t.” But then a feeling appears. One that can prevent a lot of our goals and dreams from happening: self-doubt.

Why Is It So Important To Refresh Yourself?

‘Busy’. It’s a word that’s been mentioned a lot around the blogging community recently. In our generation, we’re known as ‘busy’ people. Career 101: Do Strong Women Intimidate Men?

When it comes to our career, there are many disturbing statistics for women. In America, women only earn 77 cents for every dollar that a man earns. Australia has one of the highest educated female populations in the world (source). But the gender wage gap has hardly moved for the past two decades. This means that some women return to work after having children for just $3.44 an hour (source).

I know this has started off as a depressing blog post. But that isn't my aim. These statistics don't describe the amazing things that women do. They don’t describe how many women work damn hard to make the best career possible.

Why Should You Promote Old Blog Posts?

Being Boss is my favourite podcast. Recently, Kathleen and Emily spoke about how we should write about what we know. Then we should share that knowledge with our community. This is something I plan to start doing more of with this online space, but to clue you up a bit more, here’s a brief introduction.

I’ve worked in the Digital Marketing industry for five years. The backlog of skills I’ve gained in this time is something I’m proud of. So soon on A Branch of Holly, you’ll start to see more posts around the topic of digital marketing. I know this content will be quite specific, and I apologise if I put some readers off. But I also know how beneficial the topics I’m going to write about will be to you all.
