Let’s start off with some good news - more and more women are starting businesses than ever before, which is incredible.

But there's a big challenge that so many women I'm talking to are struggling with.

Most of the information, support, and strategies out there are geared towards those beginner business owners.

But those who are ready to go to the next level? They're feeling pretty lonely. They don't know where to get that next level strategy, where to get that support and where to simply find other women entrepreneurs who are at the level that we want get to.

And here’s a little spoiler for you Boss - being a female business owner doesn't have to be so lonely.

That’s why today, I want to talk about some observations I have been seeing in the world of women in business, and how we are creating new rooms, new circles for women who are ready to take their business to the next level.

This has been sitting on my heart for a long time and the end of the year felt like the best time to bring it to the table. It’s come about because of the conversations I’ve been having with my private clients and people in my community.

These conversations have led me in this new direction where I'm going from 2024 onwards with what is going to be my new signature group offer, The Embodied Boss Collective.

So I wanted to share with you why I'm truly doubling down on this and on making more space for female business owners in 2024.

Let’s dive in.

the online ‘vortex’

I've been working with clients since 2017, offering coaching, mastermind sessions, and recently retiring a group program. Now, I'm gearing up for the 2024 launch of the Embodied Boss Collective.

There are a few things that are in common with the conversations that I have with the women wanting to join the new programme.

A lot of women were sharing with me why they're so frustrated and why they feel so overwhelmed before starting or investing in a programme like this.

They feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information inundating them in the women's entrepreneurship space. Many are drained with the "online marketing vortex", bombarded with high-pressure sales tactics, constantly switching between tactics, leading to a cycle of purchasing courses and programs, chasing an elusive growth solution.

If it’s not the marketing vortex, it’s the  "online coaching vortex", where coaches do not have the experience that those signing up thought they had. These coaches are really teaching people how to become coaches. You’ve probably seen this. It's almost like a coach, coaching coaches to coach coaches like a pyramid scheme of this coaching ecosystem.

Once you get in it, you start to doubt that you're in the right business and get confused about the direction of your business. Despite all of your hard work, despite all of the effort you're putting into things, you start to feel like you have to know the right people.

Maybe you need to hire a specific coach or join a specific programme or grow your account massively. These are all the things that are starting to stack up and create this feeling of distrust in the women's entrepreneurship space and in themselves.

finding your people

This is the compounding problem of when people jump from tactic to tactic to tactic.

The compound effect works positively, of course, but it can also work against us. When you only know a formula, you don't know how to adapt and adjust to get the results that you're looking for.

A lot of these problems are also being blamed on mindset and motivation. In fact, if you look out into the women's entrepreneurship space, especially at events for female business owners, you will find that even though they say the topic is about this next-level strategy, really it tends to be more about mindset and motivation.

It feels like a pep rally rather than deep strategy talks. And it's tough to find that next-level guidance in this space, leading many to look elsewhere. But often, other spaces aren’t emotionally supportive or cater to the real challenges we face. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Let's flashback to my early days in business – I felt lonely. There weren’t many women I could relate to, especially heading where I wanted to go. And honestly, the stats reflect this – only a small percentage of women entrepreneurs cross the six or seven-figure mark. I get it; not everyone aims for that. Most want enough to live comfortably. But the problem is, the industry mainly caters to beginners, not those building solid businesses. So when you’ve outgrown beginner spaces, you're left stranded, looking for more advanced advice and community. And when you’re the smartest one in the room, it’s time to find a new room, one filled with women ready to play at your level or higher.

Remember that saying, "You're the average of the five people you spend the most time with"? Well, think about your entrepreneurial circle. Surround yourself with those playing at your level or above. It's about finding rooms that challenge you, provide fresh perspectives, and emotionally support women aiming for bigger things while juggling life's demands. This isn’t just a rant; it's a reflection on what folks have shared and why spaces like the Embodied Boss Collective, launching next year, matter. Because it can get pretty lonely out there.

finding your support system

As a female business owner, it can feel like you're never doing anything right when you're being bombarded with so much information and so many mixed messages.

When you don't have that strong support system, it's so easy to second guess yourself and keep finding yourself going after shiny objects. So I just want to share a few things that I think will help you start to get into a space that will support you and where you’re going.

How you manage information

So the first thing is, how are you managing the information that is being input into you?

This is so important because one of the greatest challenges I hear from women is the FOMO that is driving a lot of decision making the fear of missing out. When you are constantly being bombarded with information, which we all are, you start to get swept up into that vortex and you can no longer make logical rational decisions.

Let's face it, a lot of the marketing is designed to push your buttons and to make you feel like you need to buy things ‘right now’. That fear of missing out is leading to ‘just-in-case’ information consumption, which is very time consuming. Especially if you are reading, listening or watching everything as soon as it's coming out with the hope that maybe this will apply to you someday.

It can also be very expensive if you're buying courses or programmes or trainings that you might not need right away.

So the solution to FOMO, ‘just in case’ driven information consumption?

Focus on what fits your current existing goals. Choose wisely, don't let info overwhelm you.

This is hugely impactful because it effectively puts blinders on, it slows that flow of information, it allows you to take action and make rational decisions that are right for your business.

Who you get the information from

The second thing I want to emphasise is where your info is coming from. These days, everyone seems like an expert, and some even teach others how to appear as experts. They weave stories of going from zero to millionaire in no time—those are red flags. It's like crafted credibility, not the real deal. Think about it: the info only counts as much as the person giving it. People often skip researching the source. I've had talks with clients who regretted signing up elsewhere due to broken promises or bad experiences. It might not be online, but people talk. So, before investing in more coaching or training, do your homework. Look beyond Google; reach out to folks who've worked with them. Ask for references, especially with bigger investments. You deserve to feel confident in who you're hiring.

Also, consider trying before committing. Some of my clients said they wished they'd tested the waters with other coaches or programs before diving in. It's crucial to see if your style matches theirs. Even informal calls or workshops can give you a sense of the fit.

I've had fantastic client retention, and when I asked why, one mentioned feeling a click during our initial interactions. Finding the right fit matters, especially with significant investments. You should get a sense of the experience to be sure it's the right fit. Not all coaches or mentors fit everyone, so finding that connection is key to getting what you truly want out of it.

getting out of your comfort zone

The last thing I want to stress is stepping out of your comfort zone. I get it, you might be rolling your eyes, thinking, "Seriously, at this point in the year?" But trust me, this is where the magic happens. Business thrives on relationships, and while online chats are cool, nothing beats a face-to-face chat. Meeting someone in person, having a genuine 15-minute conversation, that's where the real connection is. It’s difficult to find that level of connection online.

That's why the Embodied Boss Collective plans an annual in-person event. I hosted one in 2022, and it was unforgettable—for me and my clients. I attended my coaches mastermind in Las Vegas during my honeymoon, I remember feeling like such a fraud but I put myself in that room because I trusted my coach. I knew that where I wanted to go in my business and the calibre of entrepreneur I wanted to be that I had to align myself with the level of business I wanted to aspire to they were in that room. That mastermind investment really pushed me out of my comfort zone big, big, big time.

I can’t stress enough how impactful it is to get into a room and actually build those real life connections and push yourself to expand your comfort zone to expand your network to expand your circle.

time for a recap

  • First, ditch the "just in case" learning fuelled by FOMO. Instead, embrace "just in time" learning driven by your strategy and goals.

  • Second, be picky about where your info comes from. If it's not from credible sources or doesn't align with your values, it won't get you where you need to go. And it's not worth your time or money.

  • Lastly, get yourself into the right rooms. Think about what you want in these spaces. Do you need mindset pep talks, concrete strategies, or both? Figure out your criteria—what topics, what vibes suit you. Once you've got that, get something on your calendar in the next few months. It'll make a huge difference, I promise.
