Today’s talking point:
We are celebrating 100 episodes of the podcast with a very special interview. Busy to Boss Academy co-coach Joanne puts Holly in the hot-seat to discuss how her business has grown, the biggest challenges in business and what she's learnt along the way.
This very special podcast episode is hosted by Joanne from Creative Flow Collective. She’s our brilliant Busy to Boss Academy co-host and the perfect person to interview me for this 100th episode milestone.
This episode really is one you’ll want to listen to, but here’s a little of what we talked about…
What we talked about:
As always, we started with why. For me, this has two parts.
“The first part is Jacob. He's my biggest why. And I just want to be able to create the best life for him for now. And for our future as well. Then the other side of that is the people that I help. So I want to empower them, I want them to feel confident that they can be the boss of their lives, and they do have it within them to get to where they want to be. And when we break through something huge on a coaching call, or when I see them bring something to life they've been dreaming of for so long. Or when they look back and say, ‘Oh, I did that I made that happen’… that means everything.”
How my business has evolved
We discuss where my business was when I started the podcast, which was then called Blog It Boss It Radio. It coincided with a big shift in how I approached my business. I got photos done and branding and really went out there with a bang.
“I was just going all-in on the business, I really wanted to make sure that I had those core foundations in place before I started to try and get more clients”
But I felt like I had no control over the business. I was coaching on so many different topics and really letting it rule my life.
“Because then I realised that I was getting more and more questions on planning, and productivity, and business systems and business structure. And I think when I look back at the podcast, you can see how that slowly starts to transition as well in the episodes.”
lessons along the way
We chat about how my business and life has changed. “It's been the biggest learning experience of my entire life. It honestly has made me who I am.”
I also share some of my failures and the things that have taught me the biggest lessons.
“So at the end of 2019, I launched the original Busy to Boss Academy, which was a 12-week group programme. And it bombed. I wanted 10 people, I got four. And they were incredible, and they loved it. But I did that and created that purely based on what other people were doing.”
From this, we dived into talking about comparison, something I still work on and a feeling that so many clients experience too. It can affect us all across products or services.
pivotal moments
“I think back to you know, when when I started the podcast and how I was working 24/7 and didn't know what I was doing. And compare that to now and it's just so polar opposite.”
Then I shared how creating the Busy to Boss Academy was a key turning point in my business – and it very nearly didn’t happen.
“If I hadn't have launched it. I don't know where I would be now.”
thank you
On a final note, you honestly don't know how big of a part you play.
Whether it's that you listen to an episode of the podcast, or you message me on Instagram, or you watch a training, or you sign up to the academy… whatever it is, it means more than you could ever possibly know. And I am so so grateful for you.
