138: Feel like you're stuck and making no progress? This is for you.

If you feel like you're showing up and you're being consistent but the needle just doesn't seem to be moving, then this one is for you.

As we continue with the freedom series, this episode will feel like one big-pep talk, as so often that’s exactly what you need!

firstly, you are not alone.

When I refer to ‘not making progress’, I'm talking about progress on your goals and the things that you are actively working on in your business. This is usually when it feels like no matter what you do, progress is not happening at the rate you want it to.

Firstly, I want you to know that we have all been there. You are definitely not alone in those kinds of feelings. In fact, I still feel that way.

  • A reminder for you: Progress does not always follow a straight line.

Not every day is going to be a giant leap forward. That is okay. It doesn't mean that you're going backwards or that you're losing progress or that things aren't working.

You showing up and doing the work, even just a little bit of work toward the direction of your goals is progress. Even if you don't see it unfolding in real time.

It’s a fundamental mindset shift to recognise that as you pursue a goal, it is inevitable that ups and downs are going to happen. Knowing what your challenges are, means you can see them as an opportunity to grow, evolve and take back control.

consistency is everything…

I know a lot of you don't vibe with the word consistency, but results come from taking continuous action over and over again.

So if we're not making progress, we can't know if something isn't working unless we're consistent first.

  • A reminder for you: For most goals, there are so many different paths that can lead to the same goal.

If you're struggling to be consistent, maybe your method of getting to the goal is what needs to be tweaked instead of you throwing in the towel and giving up on the goal itself. And this relates specifically to when you feel like something isn't working. Think about the approach you’re taking and if there is anything that you can tweak to make it a better experience for you to stay consistent.

consistency in action

I have an example from one of my mastermind clients that exemplifies consistency in action and highlights that you can’t make changes if you aren’t consistent first.

  • My client hit her biggest sales month in July. It was also the month she worked the least.

  • We implemented a business model for the running of her shop to make it more sustainable, and it worked. Her online shop was doing really well and she had a system she could repeat.

  • This worked until it didn’t and she identified that something wasn’t working as well as it used to.

  • As she had implanted her system consistently, there was data to review and assess, to see what could be tweaked.

  • We realised that her current business model was starting to limit her income, instead of giving her the freedom and flexibility she desired.

  • So, we looked at the data and pivoted and did three key things:

    • 1) We took the structure of how she runs her online shop and tweaked it just slightly so she had the flexibility and more scope to hit her income goals.

    • 2) We mapped out a new weekly routine which allowed her to focus on different money making activities each day.

    • 3) We honed her messaging and focused on what made her brand unique and her products a necessity across her marketing platforms.

  • All of this resulted in her biggest income month in July.

This client example shows the power of pivoting your business model when necessary. It also highlights the importance of being consistent and collecting data.

So if your current business structure is not working for you, and you're a busy business owner looking for change - I just want you to know that you can create the results that you're looking for.

Your pep talk

I encourage you to remember that progress usually doesn't look like leaping, progress often looks like shuffling.

If you are not sure if you're making progress, ask yourself this one question: Did I do something to move a little bit closer to my goal today?

If the answer is no, then look at changing your schedule. If you can answer yes, then your next job is to trust the process. And do it again tomorrow.

That's really the key to success when it comes to reaching your goals even when it feels like you're not making progress.
