SHOULD YOU USE VIDEO FOR YOUR BLOG?
If you've been reading ABOH for some time or watching ABOH TV, you've probably asked yourself this question at some point...
SHOULD I USE VIDEO FOR MY BLOG?
Oh boy I know where you’re coming from.
This is a question I’m being asked a lot more frequently.
And I know it can be annoying when people say “oh I get where you’re coming from”. But please trust me when I say that I get where you’re coming from and I know you might not 100% be able to believe that, but it’s true.
I started YouTube just as a way to document my life really and share more value with my community.
But as I started doing more research and I was watching people online like Amy Landino and Sunny Lenarduzzi. And I was thinking this is so good, I definitely want to try teaching people in this way.
And it didn’t really matter to me that there were loads of other people in my niche or that I was already managing a very full online presence, I wanted to do it.
Now when I say I get where you’re coming from by asking this question, I know there was a point when I really needed to consider this. But it was more like, how important is it going to be for me to make video?
Not, am I going to be able to teach people well in this way, am I good on camera, will people get me... But it was more how can I make sure I’m providing the utmost value to people through video.
What does that look like, how can I share this in a way that people relate to but also make it fun.
And so now I’m going to say something that you might not want to hear.
YOU ASKING WHETHER OR NOT YOU SHOULD USE VIDEO FOR YOUR BLOG IS JUST AN EXCUSE THAT IS PREVENTING YOU FROM GETTING STARTED
And usually the people that are more bothered about how they’re going to come across on camera are the ones that might not be able to run with it for the long haul when those bad days happen.
And by bad days I mean sometimes you’re going to post a video - and nothing. People won’t watch it. This is just what happens.
But for those people who feel like they do have a message or story or lesson to share? They can’t wait to start making video and get that information out there, and it’s not about, "should I use video for my blog?"
It's:
- How many videos should I make per week?
- How can I get started with the equipment I have in front of me?
- How can I work this into my schedule without loosing my sanity and making sure that I’m not going to regret this a few months down the line?
So even though you think you’re in a different place, that’s what everyone thinks.
And now just consider that that makes you like everyone else.
SO WHY NOT USE VIDEO TO CHANGE THAT?
By next year 80% of all traffic online will be video and people are going to be watching video more than consuming any other piece of content.
Video is a fantastic platform you can use in conjunction with your blog. And it’s so much fun. Yes, it does take time and a lot of bravery.
But video is where it’s at right now and if you don’t use it in some way, you’re going to risk falling behind.
So this is my challenge to you if you’re asking yourself, "should I use video for my blog?" I want you to go into the comments and talk about how you would do this, what you would share through video.
And you can start helping each other if you’re interested in creating some kind of video content, it doesn’t matter if it’s YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram Stories.
If you want to share video somewhere, what’s your why? What’s your message? Why is it important to you and important enough for you to do it?
And the key is it so important to you that you’ll keep going even on those bad days.
So that was just a little push forward for you as we go into a new week, in case you needed it.
Remember to really think about using video for your blog so you can get one step closer to a breakthrough.
