18 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR SELF-BELIEF
It’s not intelligence or lack of ability that stops people from reaching their goals and getting to where they want to be - it’s not having self-belief. There are many challenges that we face in our lives and it’s not how much we know that helps us deal with it. It’s how much we believe in our capability to do it.
But if you’re anything like me, you struggle with self-belief. You struggle with believing in yourself enough to accomplish what you really want to achieve. Are there some quick fixes to help you conquer it? No. But I’ve found some very small, simple ways to help improve myself. And today, I wanted to pass these onto you.
#1 | Get enough sleep and wake up earlier
I know, I know - you’ve heard this one before. But tiredness affects everything. I know if I don’t get enough sleep before a big day, then the day won’t go well. Switch off your phone, turn off the TV and just sleep. Even if you don’t think you’re tired, when your head hits the pillow, you’ll soon see just how tired you are. Let yourself relax. I’m currently on my week off, but I actually feel more tired than I do when I’m at work, because I’m letting myself relax.
Plus, that way, when you get more sleep, you can wake up earlier. I’m a morning person, so the more I get done in a morning, the better.
#2 | Take time to do your morning routine
Making your bed, sorting your breakfast, filling your cup with tea - it’s the small things you notice that make the biggest difference. Starting your day off in the right way with a routine that works for you is one of the best ways to remember who you are and why you’re here.
#3 | Get used to single-tasking
Multi-tasking is the devil. Get used to doing one thing at a time. Focus on what’s the most important and everything else can wait. When you’re trying to learn something new, don’t keep checking social media. Keep going until you’ve progressed to a certain point and it makes you feel good. That’s so much better than working on numerous things at a time.
#4 | Sort out your inbox
I don’t know about you, but I find that when my inbox is cluttered, then my whole life feels cluttered. So I always do my best to make sure that it never gets out of control. Ideally, everything is in folders and as much gets deleted as possible. Try it for yourself and embrace the relief.
#5 | Clear out your phone
Old numbers, time-wasting apps, duplicate photos. Get rid.
#6 | Get rid of the negativity in your life
Whether it’s people or things, to improve yourself and your belief, you only need positivity in your life. Negativity really affects you. Start thinking negative thoughts and you’ll begin to believe them. But have a positive outlook and it’ll transform everything.
#7 | De-clutter your space
And I’m not just talking about your workspace. I’m talking about your whole space. Everything. Your bedroom, your house. Getting rid of the clutter that you don’t need is one of the most important things you can do.
#8 | Read more
Books and magazines are perfect ways to escape from your everyday life and have some alone time. Blogs give you too many chances to compare and feel negative. Books and magazines allow you to be yourself.
#9 | Spend less time in front of the screen
I’ve talked before on this space about how I set boundaries at home and always take time to spend quality moments with my family - and that means without TV screens or phones. Not only is it better for your health but it’s better for your mentality too.
#10 | Write all of your ideas down
No matter how big or small and no matter what they’re about, write everything down. Every thought, every beat. They don’t have to be related to your blog or career, and they don’t even have to be clear. Just words. Words will help you understand.
#11 | Stand up as often as you can
You might not have a standing desk at work, but that doesn't mean you can’t be active. I try and get up from my seat every hour, whether it’s filling up my water bottle or going for a walk round my building. Everyone always says exercise is the best medicine and that’s true for your self-belief too.
#12 | Get creative
Side projects don’t have to turn into full-time side businesses like people tell you. You don’t have to make money from it if you don’t want to. What happened to doing it all for fun? That’s what blogging is for me and I bet there’s a hobby like that for you too.
#13 | Organise yourself
No brainer. The more you organise yourself, the more you’ll get done and the more self-belief you’ll have. Done.
#14 | Experiences are what makes you happy - not money
When you’re out for a meal or visiting somewhere, it’s not the money that makes it. It’s the people you’re with. Instead of spending money on an activity, why not go for a walk? There’s so much beauty out there that we don’t get to experience.
#15 | Support others
Even without expecting anything back from it. Make sure you’re actively doing it. Tell people they’re good at what they’re doing. It means everything.
#16 | Make time for the important people in your life
Easily the most important one on this list.
#17 | Drink more water
Drinking more water changed my life. Honestly.
#18 | Take time off without feeling guilty
Because you deserve it. You really do.
