7 OF THE BIGGEST REASONS WHY YOU DON'T GET THINGS DONE ON TIME

Over the past year as a blogger, I’ve been surprised that increasing members to my community and building my online presence - the things I feared the most - were growing at a pretty natural rate. Instead, the thing that nagged me the most was straight-forward: finding the motivation (and time) to do the work I needed to do.

Sounds ridiculous, right? But after chatting with enough bloggers, I can say that this is a common problem. These days, I’m able to get a hell of a lot more done (although I’m still working on it). So today, I want to share with you the lessons that I’ve learned and why you haven’t been able to get things done. After you’ve read this, you’ll have increased motivation, inspiration and productivity. Let’s go.

7 OF THE BIGGEST PRODUCTIVITY MYTHS THAT ARE SLOWING YOU DOWN

You started your blog because you wanted an outlet to be creative. You wanted to share your life, share your thoughts and make something of this hobby. When you first started out as a blogger, the prospect of building an audience and creating something successful was pretty exciting, right?

What’s not as exciting, is soon realising that running a blog is more like 20% creative work and 80% working to get it out there.

5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COMING UP WITH A SUCCESSFUL EBOOK IDEA

If you’re even a tiny bit serious about building an online presence, then you’ve probably started to realise something big: it takes WAY more than just your blog. You’ve also probably started noticing that eBooks are popping up everywhere.

Since eBooks are becoming more and more accessible (and doable), that must mean that there’s no room or point in you creating one, right?

Actually, there is.

In a contrasting sort of way, the fact that eBooks are becoming more mainstream is a positive thing. It’s growing the amount of people who want to read or buy them in the first place.

Do you think your family or friends would really get the point of creating an eBook? When people hear that I’ve created one that’s 100+ pages and give it away for free on my site, I get some odd looks. But as more and more people learn how powerful eBooks can be, more and more people are interested in downloading and buying them, too.

Here’s the deal: if you’ve ever wanted to create an eBook to boost your online presence (or even just to add it to your CV), then now is a great time to do it. In fact, since launching my first eBook in February, my mailing list more than doubled and continues to grow on a daily basis. Because of that one eBook. MADNESS.

Now, I know the one question stopping you. The one you want to ask me. The one that stopped me moving forward.

“How do I come up with a topic that people will actually give me something for?”

It’s an important question, friend. In today’s post, I’m digging into all the ins and outs you’ll want to know so you can come up with a successful eBook idea of your own.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR BLOG RUNNING WHEN YOU GO ON HOLIDAY

If you’re part of the Blogging Breakthrough community or follow me on Instagram and Twitter, you probably know that at the start of the month, I was away for five days in Dublin.

My plan was to take a complete break from creating content, social media, emails - everything. Crazy, right? That I wasn’t going to even check in with anything for about a week?

I got back into the swing of things the day after I came back, but it was only last week that a blog post was published that was actually written by me. All I can say is the the break and the holiday overall were absolutely wonderful.

The trip had been planned since February and nearer the time, I had to decide what I wanted to do with my blog - keep it running or take a break. I chose the first option.

Then I got into a huge panic that I’d have too much work to do before I went away. Getting all the blog posts written up alongside my day job was going to be the most difficult thing, and that’s not to mention photography and social media scheduling. Managing your blog and online presence on a day-to-day basis is one thing. Getting it ready for when you’re taking a holiday is a completely different playing field.

Like many bloggers and small business owners, taking a break doesn’t always fit the criteria of what taking a break actually means. Even if we go away, we’re still checking our emails, responding to people on social media and watching snaps. I was determined that my holiday would not be like this. I wanted to take a break in every sense of what that phrase actually means.

Could my blog stop completely and still be OK? In a way. I mean, it wasn’t a huge amount of time that there was going to be silence. But I felt like I’d come so far with my blog in 2016 that I didn’t want it to go quiet. So I created a plan and boy has it paid off.

The same thing is going to happen again in August when this time, I’m on holiday for seven days. But now, I know exactly what to do.

So today, I wanted to share with you my step-by-step plan of how I kept my blog running whilst I was on holiday, along with growing my social following and hitting a record number of pageviews.

HOW & WHY YOU NEED TO THINK BEYOND YOUR BLOG IN ORDER TO GROW YOUR ONLINE PRESENCE

A Branch of Holly started nearly three years ago, and rebranded slightly almost one year ago, when I still had no idea just how vast this online world was. At the time, this blog was purely devoted to lifestyle - music, fashion, beauty - you name it, I wrote about it. I had no huge plans apart from simply to write and connect with people, which I'm sure most of you reading this can relate to with your own blogs.

What started off as a saviour for a difficult time in my life quickly became an obsession. I loved the process of creating a blog post. I lived for comments and Twitter mentions from my readers. Once you envelop yourself within the blogging community, you come to realise being a 'blogger' doesn't come down to just writing blog posts. It actually means a lot more than that.

Over time, I believe that I've built more than just a blog...

HOW I STAY INSPIRED AND MOTIVATED AS A DESIGNER

Hey guys! Today I have the pleasure to write a guest post for A Branch of Holly and I have loads to talk about, so get ready! But first, a little introduction is needed.

I’m Carole, a French graphic designer and illustrator currently living in beautiful North Wales. I’ve been living here for about 5 years now and although I’ve loved my full-time designer job from the start, I’m preparing myself to take the leap and go freelance next month! I know, exciting right?!

I love talking about design, my adventures and inspirations on my blog, and my Instagram is full of the yummy food I eat (oh yes, I’m a greedy girl!) and beautiful places I see. But I’m not here to talk to you about food (although it’s very tempting) - I’ve got the pleasure to talk to you about how I stay inspired and motivated in my fascinating creative job!

THREE ETIQUETTE TIPS FOR PARTY GUESTS
"What does etiquette mean to you? To us, it means treating people with consideration, respect, and honesty. It means being aware of how our actions affect those around us. Why? To help us build successful relationships."

- Emily Post -

Growing up, I remember my parents were always hosting parties at our house. I remember helping my mother prepare the appetizers, decorate the house, and organize favor bags for the guests. She went all out and I always admired her drive to throw the perfect party each time. The guests always left smiling, their stomach's full of food, drink and laughter.

Clearly, I have taken after my mother, because I absolutely love organizing parties. Whether it be a wedding or a backyard BBQ, here are some tips to being a great party guest.

TRUSTING AND VALUING YOURSELF IN THE EARLY YEARS OF YOUR CAREER

Choosing a career is never an easy task. Actually getting started in said career can be even harder.

To start with, career paths aren’t as linear as they once were. In the 5 years since I’ve left uni, not a single one of my friends have stayed in one job and “worked their way up.” Nowadays, people seem to be taking a lot more time with their careers, and a side step can be seen just as important as an upward one, if you come away having learnt something new.

And if you haven’t left school yet, spoiler alert, your education doesn’t finish with a qualification.

In fact the “learning process” can be the single hardest thing to navigate when you’re starting your career.

HOW BLOGGING BECAME THE OUTLET THAT I NEEDED

It is my pleasure to share with you a little bit about my experiences as a new blogger.  I created my blog, Sunny Expectations, nearly four months ago on Christmas Day.  That morning, I had woken up early to a quiet house consumed with sadness and heartache.  My daughter was with her father for the holiday, per our parenting plan, and I was a mess.  Out of a tear-filled, lonely morning, Sunny Expectations was born.

WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE

The dreaded quarter-life crisis of feeling a little lost, unsure and not knowing what you’re supposed to be doing is something I know all too well.

Questions about our futures start off young. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” turns into “What GCSEs/A Levels are you going to take?”, which quickly segways into “What are you going to do at University?” and “What to do you want to do next?”

We spend so much time questioning what it is that we want to do be doing that, often, we forget to think about what we don’t want to be doing.

I’ll take myself for example, because what better experiences to draw from than your own?

4 ACTIONABLE WAYS TO STAY ON TOP OF YOUR GOALS

I tend to find that setting goals is easy enough, but when to comes down to the nitty gritty of actually keeping up with them, hitting them, and smashing them to pieces, I need a good ol' poke with my motivation stick. It's at this point in the year, you find yourself looking at two different types of people.

The first type are the ones who have every day of their entire year planned, with tricks on how to advance their goals, hit them, and pretty them up every which way. Then they do it all over again, and smash them every single time. They're usually just that tiny bit too competitive with other people, even when they don't need to be, and feel the need to tell you their achievements more often than you'd like.

The second type are a little.. less motivated. They're behind. They're struggling. They ditched some of their goals because, although they knew deep down they weren't achievable, they stressed themselves out over them anyway. They think about giving up and joining a nunnery in order to somehow achieve a level of happiness that their forgotten goals never could bring them.

Neither one of these types of people are bad, and neither is what they're doing. There are just healthier ways to go about your goals, ways that don't involve putting them on a bonfire to crackle away into nothing. It's important to remember there's a reason you made those goals and wanted to achieve those things, and in order to stay on top of them, you've got to have at least half a plan to start with.

So, how do you stick with and stay on top of your goals?

HOW I BALANCE BEING A CREATIVE WITH HAVING A FULL-TIME JOB

My name is Steve and I am a singer songwriter called Stylusboy (www.stylusboy.co.uk). I have been making music for a number of years and I have done this alongside having a family and a full-time job. In addition to writing songs, I also create my handmade artwork, design and maintain my website, book live shows and promote myself. It keeps me very busy but I love it and I can't imagine it any other way.

People often talk to me about how I manage to do all this, so when Holly posted looking for guest bloggers I offered to write about how I manage everything.
