Today’s topic is a little bit personal…

This won’t come as a big surprise to you, but sometimes I can be TOO strategic - I like lists, I like things to be in a certain order and I like to just follow the plan.

So this means I love plans, I love color coding, I am just a really extreme type A person… so incorporating fun and going off script can feel super awkward and stressful for me.

My mindset coach is always reminding me that because I’m so logical I forget to believe in magic and so I thought this would be a great conversation for us to have as we wrap up Q3 and head into the last quarter of the year.

Because when I do infuse fun and magic and playfulness, that’s when I usually have the biggest breakthroughs and I hope that you can too.

Here’s the lowdown of what we’re going to cover:

  • My personal experience with infusing more fun and magic into my business plan

  • Some journal prompts to help you start to implement this

  • A few tangible action steps for you to round this up (because I know you love those!)

I truly believe in having a plan. And for you to be in business for the long-term you need to make sure that you love what you're doing and that you’re loving the everyday activities you’re doing too.

For me, the long game means enjoying what you do, infusing fun and magic into your business, and also really thinking about how do you want to live first and then work your business plan around that.

I would LOVE for you to share with me how can you incorporate more fun into the work you are doing - head over to Instagram, pop me a message and let me know.

I think you'll be surprised by how motivating it can be to help you get the results that you have been dreaming of.

How I infused more fun and magic into my business

My mindset coach often reminds me that because I'm so logical, I forget to believe in the magic in life. But as I mentioned above, I often experience the biggest breakthroughs when I infuse fun, magic, and playfulness into my business plan. I hope the same can be done for you, too.

As an example of an upper limit and what it feels like to be challenged, I would use my first trimester of this pregnancy. Towards the end of the last year, I set my goals for 2023, thinking I'd have ample time to work on them. However, in mid-January, I found out I was pregnant with baby number two. During that challenging first trimester, I realised that energetically, I was encountering an upper-limit challenge. My mindset coach helped me recognise this too. Instead of succumbing to negativity, I flipped the script and instead of asking 'Why is this happening?’ (because I felt so sick in the first trimester), I asked ‘how can I emerge from this stronger?'

Another example is that I keep seeing a Robin, every single day in my garden or when we’re just out and about. I believe in signs from the universe, and the robin has become my constant reminder that I'm on the right path. It's a sign that everything will be okay.

Additionally, earlier this year, I found myself waking up at the same time every night. My mindset coach explained that, in the spiritual realm, this indicates a shift in energy and a spiritual awakening.

All these occurrences may sound a bit woo-woo, but I couldn't help but notice these patterns coming together. Have you ever felt like things were changing, even though you couldn't pinpoint exactly how? Perhaps you can relate.

I usually meticulously plan my Instagram posts a week in advance but lately, I've been jotting down ideas but waiting until the last minute to write and share them. I’m allowing space for spontaneity, intuition and flow.

This is a significant shift for me as I'm typically very structured and strategic. My clients often seek my strategic expertise, but this year, I'm embracing a blend that includes more spontaneity, magic, and fun. In fact, they go together perfectly.

Since returning from my first maternity leave in July 2021, my business has thrived like never before, despite me working less. It's a testament to the power of slowing down, listening to the universe, and embracing magic, even when it feels uncomfortable.

There has been plenty of hustle and late nights since going full-time in my business in August 2017 and there will likely be more. However, this year, I'm prioritising the season, the magic and having more fun. The more I focus on how I want to feel, the more my income and everyday life transform. It's a reminder to trust your intuition.

journal prompts

So I've asked myself these questions many times earlier this year, and recently, as I've been journaling in the mornings to help me figure out what the heck does this season mean? And how do I make every day more fun and enjoyable? How do I infuse more magic into my every day? It's really helped me to journal about this and lean into this. So I have some prompts for you.

  • Question 1: What do you love doing? What activity brings you pure joy on an ordinary day? For me, it's been outside, it's been outside, it's been with my family, and just really enjoying the season that I am in.

  • Question 2: What do you want to experience this season? As we enter autumn, my favourite season, and welcome a new baby into our lives, I'm determined to fully embrace it. I've worked hard to have the rest of this year off, so why not go with the flow, release expectations, and simply enjoy it?

  • Question 3: What is your ultimate goal? Beyond the finer details of business plans and strategies, what's your big-picture goal? Is it about gaining time freedom, increasing income, or a blend of both? And what does that look like on a day-to-day basis?

So for me as an example, my ultimate goal is finding a way to serve my clients in a way I really, really love. I've found my flow, developed new offers for the next year, and witnessed incredible growth in my clients. Plus, I still control my calendar, batching my client calls on Wednesdays, which really fires me up. It's just this magical experience, because I can see the growth in myself and in them too.

So I encourage you to think about what you love doing. What is the thing that just lights you up when you get to do it?

Personally, I love creating content, which is good as I recorded all these podcast episodes in advance, to cover maternity leave. It was hard but it pushed me to think so far ahead. Sometimes it may seem illogical to change my entire business model when I'm about to have a baby. However, it all makes sense when you consider the bigger picture. These are the things I love, and they infuse everyday life with excitement. Messages from clients, purchases of my offers, inquiries about collaboration, or coaching calls - they all fuel my passion and motivation.

So, what do you love doing, and what's the driving force behind it? After leaving jobs where I was mistreated, I constantly remind myself that I didn't start this journey to be chained to my desk. I'm such a firm believer in enjoying the process and enjoying the journey. So I challenge you to explore ways to inject more fun, joy, and even a touch of magic into your business and life. It can be as simple as dedicating a few minutes each day to something that truly ignites your spirit, provides creative space, and helps you uncover your next big step. Remember, you started your business for a reason.

Tangible next steps

So you know we love practical, tangible action steps. Here are a few ways that I wanted to share on how you can start to incorporate more fun and playfulness into your business plan.

1. Change up your workspace: Break the monotony by working in different places. Even switching to another room in your house can offer a fresh perspective. If you enjoy the ambiance of a coffee shop, treat yourself to an afternoon there. A change in environment can do wonders for creativity and productivity.

2. Create a challenge for yourself: Challenge yourself with micro-goals or mini-projects. For instance, consider batching your tasks or projects into smaller, more manageable chunks. This not only provides a sense of achievement but also fuels your motivation. Having a challenge and a set deadline can make work more enjoyable.

3. Weekly win ritual: Establish a weekly ritual where you celebrate your wins and take a break from work. It's a moment to reflect on your achievements, no matter how small, and share them with others. As an example, designate Fridays as "no-cook" nights and indulge in your favourite takeout or meal. It's a delightful way to mark the end of the workweek.

So those are some actionable steps for you. The whole point of this podcast really was to give you a little peek behind the scenes of some of the things that I've personally been going through this year. While I love the strategy, and I truly believe in having a plan for you to be in business for the long term, you need to make sure that you love what you're doing and that you're loving the everyday activities.

For me, the long game means enjoying what you do, infusing fun and magic into your business plan and also really thinking about how you want to live first and then work your business around that.

I would love for you to share with me how you can incorporate more fun into the work that you are doing. I think that you'll be surprised by how motivating it can be to help you get the results that you've been dreaming of.
